Sunshine, Bike Rides, and Wisdom Shared
Put yourself (and your music) on mute sometimes and see what you figure out.
Slow down
Simplify things a bit
Ride your bike and only drink good coffee
Work hard, but not too hard
Treat people the right way
Love your family and friends, and be with them often
I wrote the words above on May 16th after a few well-timed conversations earlier in the week had helped to unwind more than a few months of mental knots that had been building up. The importance of practicing how we think (thanks RH) and knowing that the past isn’t real, neither is the future, but in the present is where life happens (thanks TK).
I shared the above on Strava as well after an early morning 2-hour, headphone-free, Z2 ride in the sunshine helped a few other things click into place. It seemed to resonate there too, so I wanted to share it here in case you’re in need of something similar.
Thanks for reading,
Paul
Move forward. Stay in the game.
My Inputs for the Week
I know I don’t always get it right, but I’m trying my best. It’s a practice, not a perfect.
Podcast Episode I Loved - Rich Roll’s conversation with Andy Ramage on the benefits of an alcohol-free lifestyle. This month marks about three years since I stopped drinking alcohol and I can remember vividly working through some of the awkward moments and fears that Ramage talks about through the lens of his own experience and through his One Year No Beer project. I was definitely a “Middle Lane Drinker” as he calls it.
Book I’m Reading - Seth Godin’s Song of Significance. I’m still working through the early pages of this one, but am loving the insights and thought experiments it provides. I think a lot about performance culture vs a culture that results in high performance, and this book hits on that and more with both current and historical examples. And as a plus, it reads a lot like his daily email/blog, which I also highly recommend signing up for.
Here’s a section I had to highlight.
